Time Card Calculator

Build a seven-row time card from your shift records. Each row has its own start, finish, unpaid break and next-day setting, so a mixed week of daytime and overnight work remains easy to review.

Enter one shift per row

Use a row for each shift you want included. Enter both a start and finish time on a working row, and leave an unused row empty. Check the next-day setting on any shift that crosses midnight. A row with just one time is incomplete and should be corrected before the card can provide a reliable total.

Break minutes belong to the row where they occurred. If a shift contains more than one unpaid break, enter their combined minutes. Do not deduct the same break again elsewhere. If you worked two separate shifts on one day, use two rows and keep a note of the actual dates in your own records.

Check the individual shifts before the total

A weekly sum can look reasonable even when two entry errors cancel each other out. Review every row against its source record, especially times around midnight. Then compare the combined hours with your schedule. A large difference may be a missing row, a break entered in hours instead of minutes, or an overnight flag applied to the wrong shift.

Decimal hours are a second way to express the same total. Thirty minutes add 0.5 hours, not 0.30 hours. Use the combined duration rather than adding rounded display values by hand; rounding each small value first can introduce a difference in the last decimal place.

Keep the card within its scope

The seven rows provide a compact worksheet, not a full employee attendance system. The total does not determine which hours qualify as overtime or whether a break must be paid. It also does not adjust a shift for a daylight-saving transition. Keep the original attendance record and apply the terms that govern the work when preparing a payslip or invoice.

Worked example

Five equal workdays

Five shifts from 09:00 to 17:30, each with a 30-minute unpaid break, produce 8 hours per row. The combined time is 40 hours, or 40.00 decimal hours. Leave the other two rows empty.

Common questions

Do all seven rows need values?

No. Leave rows you do not need empty. A row you use needs both a start and finish time.

Can a row cross midnight?

Yes. Select the next-day option for that row and check its individual result.

Does the time card automatically calculate overtime?

No. Use the hourly pay calculator with a threshold and multiplier that match your arrangement if you want a separate gross-pay estimate.
