Business Days Calculator

Count the dates that match your working calendar. Choose the weekdays to exclude, add the holiday dates that apply to your schedule, and decide whether the end date should count.

Your details

Weekend days
Enter YYYY-MM-DD, one date per line. No public holidays are added automatically.

Define your working week

Business days are not the same for every organisation or location. Select the weekdays your schedule treats as weekends rather than assuming that a particular pair of days applies everywhere. A shop open on Saturdays, an international team or a rotating operation may need different settings from a Monday-to-Friday office.

The calculation starts with the date range, removes the selected weekend days, and then excludes your entered holidays when they fall on otherwise eligible days. A holiday that already falls on an excluded weekend does not remove another day. Enter a substitute observance as its own date if your schedule recognises it.

Supply the holidays that actually apply

Enter holiday dates using the year-month-day format, such as 2026-12-25. The calculator uses the list you provide; it does not download or certify a country’s public-holiday calendar. Check an official local calendar and your organisation’s closure dates when preparing the list.

National, regional and company calendars can differ. For a team in several locations, calculate each relevant calendar separately or agree on the shared exclusions before using one total. A half-day closure cannot be represented by a full-date exclusion; track partial days separately when estimating hours or capacity.

Make the range boundary explicit

By default, the start date is considered and the end date is excluded. Turn on include end date when the final date belongs in the count. A date only contributes if it also passes the weekend and holiday checks. Confirm this setting before using the result for a turnaround estimate or a project handover.

A workday count is a planning measure. Contract deadlines, filing periods and employment entitlements may use their own definitions and exceptions. Use the calendar and counting rule specified for that purpose rather than assuming this configurable total supplies a legal deadline.

Worked example

A five-day planning window

From Monday to Friday with Saturday and Sunday excluded, the default end-exclusive count is 4 business days. Include Friday to get 5. If Wednesday is an entered holiday, the inclusive count becomes 4.

Common questions

Are public holidays included automatically?

No. Enter the holiday dates you want excluded, including any applicable substitute dates.

Can I use a different weekend?

Yes. Select the weekday exclusions that match the calendar you are planning around.

Does a holiday on a weekend get deducted twice?

No. A date already excluded by your weekend settings does not reduce the total a second time.
